Road Safety Audit of Winnipeg’s Garry Street Cycle Tracks and Roadworks
Fireseeds North was retained by the City of Winnipeg to provide a road safety audit of the cycling facilities and roadworks in the Garry Street Project detailed design.
CBC News reported on Nov 23, 2017 that the Garry Street project is the second largest of eight projects in the 2018 Regional Streets budget. The project includes a large quantity of new cycling facilities on and around Garry Street both South and North of Portage Avenue in Winnipeg’s central business district.
A design-stage road safety audit is a step that occurs before a design is finalized and it involves a review of the design by an independent expert team exclusively focused on road safety. The goal is to help the project team identify opportunities to improve safety.
Fireseeds North, based in Winnipeg, specializes in road safety engineering and provides road safety audits across Canada and internationally, with particular expertise in road safety for cyclists and pedestrians.
